Industrial Drum Heating

Heating industrial materials, including drum, buckets, IBC totes, and tanks is now a billion dollar industry.  Methods for achieving safe heat has taken a few years to perfect.  Recent developments in heating technology has brought to market several very efficient products for doing just that… heating and insulating industrial chemicals and materials.

Insulated flexible heating jackets are the new rave.  We have traveled the virtual globe to investigate this new technology and bring you our Editor’s Choice – TOP 5 products of 2011.  Our evaluations measured 5 key components to include (1. Effectiveness of Heating, 2. Insulation Factor, 3. Ease of Use, 4. UL/CSA Rated, 5. Price vs. Cost).

#1 – POWERBLANKET

powerblanket smallssPowerblanket industrial heated blankets received top billing for each of the 5 categories tested.  Their patented “Heat Spreading Technology” was hands down the most efficient method we evaluated. Their products are UL/CSA certified and produce and even and consistent heat throughout the blanket.  Amazing product. 5 Star Rating! Powerblanket is located in Salt Lake City with Distributors throughout the USA & Canada. See them online @ www.powerblanket.com

#2 – OMEGA

omega2Omega carries a line of heated wraps that are similar to the Powerblanket,  but after more careful inspection we discovered that their products are only UL recognized and are several hundred dollars more in cost.  Wattage is about double that of the Powerblanket, which excludes it from being “Green”, but it does heat quickly althought the insulation factor is inferior.  www.omega.com

#3 – ELECTRO-FLEX

electro-flex1

Electro-flex heaters come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are general purpose Silicon Rubber Heaters with wire-wound or etched foil heating elements protected by fiberglass-reinforced silicon rubber designed for metal containers.  UL recognized.

#4 – GRAINGER

graingerGrainger drum heaters appear to be OEM from a major manufacturer. Full wrap-around design with thermostatic control but almost double the price of the #1 Powerblanket.  Not UL certified, but a pretty decent design... but the price point will give you sticker shock.

#5 – BRISK HEAT

briskSimilar design to the Powerblanket with full coverage design.  Again… pricing is on the high side with not many unique features.
